Climbing Rwenzori Mountain: The Mountain Ranges are located on the border of Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Mt Stanley is the highest at 5,109m above sea level.
Climbing Rwenzori mountain peaks are not spectacular but the wild plants that seems well suited for some other worldly science fiction fantasy than anywhere that is in reality real, the long and fable history, the difficulty of access and the political instability around the Rwenzori mountain ranges makes it one of the world’s greatest gems. This makes it a good reason to go for a Climbing Rwenzori Mountain expedition!
DAY 1: Pick up from Entebbe Airport and drive to Fort Portal town. Stay at Mountain of the Moon hotel or drive further down to Kasese and stay at Sandton hotel.
DAY 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija village. After meeting the supporting crew, hike for 4hrs to Nyabitaba hut (2651m) for dinner and overnight. The hike is through the high elephant grass with dense bushes and on the higher elevation, the bamboo forest. On the way, white and black colubus monkeys, three-horned chameleon, blue monkeys and the ‘Rwenzori’ turaco can be seen on the trail.
DAY 3: Hike for 6hrs to John Matte hut (3503m) for dinner and overnight. The trail passes through the forest, crossing Hurt Shafer bridge where River Mubuku converges with River Bujuku. Lunch will be served at Nyamulenju shelter hut.
DAY 4: Hike for 5hrs to Bujuku hut (3900m) for dinner and overnight. The trail crosses River Bujuku, then to lower Bigo bog before getting to upper Bigo. Boardwalk has been constructed to make it easier instead of jumping from tussock grass to tussock grass. Lunch will be at the edge of Lake Bujuku shelter.
DAY 5: Hike for 4 hrs to Elena hut (4430m) for dinner and overnight. The trail passes through the wet bogs, peculiar East African mountain plants and huge slippery moss-covered rocks.
DAY 6: Summit Margherita peak (5109m) at 4am. Descend to Elena hut for breakfast. Descend further down to Kitandara hut (4023m) for dinner and overnight.
DAY 7: Walk up and down to Guy Yeoman hut (3500m) for dinner and overnight. The trail passes through the peculiar plants to Fresh-Field pass. The views are stunning with clear days giving you a site of villages in DRC. The descend through the slippery rocks and wet bogs can be a real challenge to many a hiker.
DAY 8: Leave the mountain via Nyabitaba hut and down to Nyakalengija village. Drive to Fort Portal and stay at Mountain of The Moon hotel or Sandton hotel in Kasese . The memories of climbing Rwenzori mountains will last for ever!
DAY 9: Drive back to Entebbe airport where the tour ends having climbed Rwenzori mountain. https://traverseafrika.com
